Trivia:

1) ILM computer graphics division develops "Genesis Effect", the first realistic  fractal-generated landscape.

2) Bill Reeves, with help from Ivan Sutherland (Computer Sketchpad) leads the Genesis Effect programming team, and creates a new graphics technique called "Particle Systems".Agitated surfaces representing fields of heat energy among others were generated with Particle Systems. "Particle Systems" was developed at the New York Institute of Technology. The program for "Modeling a Class of Fuzzy Objects" offers animators procedures to simulate "clouds, smoke, water, and fire": They are not rigid objects nor can their motions be described by the simple affine transformations that are common in computer graphics. Particles change its form and move with the passage of time.  Particles are more simple basic elements ("primitives") than the polygons. the model is procedurally defined and can be programmed that  similar to fractals  in zooming in a "particle system" with stochastic procedures constantly new details become recognisable. New particles arise while elder particles disappear.

3) In the "Genesis demo" a fire wall of the revived planet was generated with "400 particle systems" which included 750.000 particles.

4) People from future Pixar company worked on this film.

5) Motion blur - A post processing effect that blurs and streaks the entire frame. Loosely based on the behavior of real-world optics.
