Trivia:

1) Computer generated imagery by Industrial Light and Magic was used to create the skin effects, such as Madeline's twisted neck and stretching skin, and the shotgun hole through Helen's abdomen.

2) The film featured photo-realistic skin (created with the first human skin CG software) - skin was replicated to link a body and head together with a digital neck. The film used extensive digital retouching. 

3) Directed by  Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump (1994) 

4) One of the first CGI indistinguishable from reality (a realistic CGI hole in a Goldie Hawn's stomach).

First was Batman Returns, released a month earlier that presents realistic bats.
